2009 MTV Movie Awards Winners

The MTV Movie Awards must be one of the silliest and most pointless awards show there is, but as always, it’s fun to watch and fun to talk about. A show in which Twilight is nominated seven times and win five of those, cannot be taken seriously. But, again, it’s good fun.

So the awards show wasn’t shown live in Malaysia. How many of you caught it live on the Internet though? I couldn’t because I was in college. I guess I’ll just wait to watch the awards show on June 12 when they air it here in Malaysia on MTV. Here is the complete list of nominees and winners of the recent 2009 MTV Movie Awards. As I thought, Twilight pretty much swept the awards. Check it.

Movies That Made My 2008

Well, its New Year's Eve today and people look back on what they've done over the past year. Maybe I'll do the same, just with movies. So here are the films that I thoroughly enjoyed this past year. Drum roll please....

#10 Forgetting Sarah Marshall

It was quirky, at times romantic but most of all, subtle.

#9 Quantum of Solace

Action-packed, kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time and I loved the Daniel Craig as Bond.

#5 Yes Man

I guess this wasn't my favorite comedy of the year after all.
Made me laugh all throughout the movie.
The great connection between Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel makes this hilarious comedy, a romantic one too.

WALL-E was cute, sweet and very unexpected.

#3 Iron Man

A comic book movie that didn't feel like the conventional comic book movie.
Loved Robert Downey Jr. again.
Set the bar high, only for the next movie to set it even higher.
And of course, LOVED the suit Audi R8!

A lot of people would be going nuts at me putting this at #2.
Breakthrough movie in its genre with breakthrough acting from Heath Ledger (R.I.P).
Definitely set to be a classic that will stand the test of time.

I guess this was my favorite comedy of the year.
And film.
Different kind of funny from Yes Man.
Superb acting from James Franco.
Classic Judd Apatow.

Its nearing that time again when we look back on the year that was in movies. Let's start of with the most ridiculous plots of 2008. The Guardian recently released their list of the 8 most outrageous of 08.

What a stunner! 3 out of 8 were superhero movies. The Guardian's list is truly funny. You should really check it out. Here's what they said about The Joker.

"Wait, so the Joker really orchestrated that big truck chase just so that he could get caught and go to prison, then he could kidnap that guard and grab his phone to make the call to set off the bomb he'd previously sewn inside the henchman in the next cell? That would kill the guy who stole the mobsters' money, thus enabling him to … er, what? Heath Ledger's Joker may have been a psychopath, but he had a nerdish capacity for forward planning."

Attention Marvel Fans!

Thought Iron Man was a fantastically, awesomely, astronomically, brilliantly, MARVELously great movie? If yes, then you can look forward to a comic book moviefest by Marvel in the next couple of years. There's been plenty of speculation since Iron Man but the line up of movies look tantalizing.

Well lets start with the rest of this year. The end of 2008 will only see one Marvel movie- Punisher: War Zone.

In 2009, X-Men Origins: Wolverine is scheduled for a May 1 release. This will be the first of a few more X-Men spin offs, the next one being X-Men Origins: Magneto then X-Men: First Class. X-Men Origins: Wolverine will see Hugh Jackman reprise his role as the iconic Wolverine. So will Ian McKellen as Magneto. Also scheduled for release is the sequel to the Nicholas Cage flick, Ghost Rider.

In 2010, the line up really kicks into gear with...yeah you guessed it, Iron Man 2 with a planned May 7 release. This will be the second movie to an Iron Man trilogy. And in this one, its said that Tony Stark will be troubled by alcoholism. Ooooh. Can't wait.

July 16 2010 is the proposed date for the release of Thor. Followed by The First Avenger: Captain America on May 6 2011 and then finally The Avengers on July 15th the same year.

Other movies that will possibly be released in the not so distant future are Ant-Man, Ghost Rider 2, Spider-Man 4 (May 2011) and 5 (possibly filmed back-to-back) with Tobey Maguire reportedly being offered $50 million to do both the films.

Other ones to look out for within the next 5 years is Iron Man 3, Nick Fury and a Spider-Man spin off, Venom.

A lot of rumors and speculation but tasty, mouth-watering rumors and speculation nonetheless. One thing's for sure though, expect no less than SEVEN Marvel comic-adapted films between now and 2011.

It is a great time for Marvel fans as well as general comic fans alike.
